Description
A MORNING IN THE LOCAL BOOK STORE
A tour and assisting with various tasks at Literacy Central Vancouver Island. This will include: sorting donated books, creating displays, preparing for the Night Market presentation and purging old books no longer needed. A maximum of 20 people can sign up for this.

BMX GROUNDS/KINSMEN SPORTSPLEX ENHANCEMENT
Maintenance and enhancements of the Kinsmen Sportsplex and BMX Grounds. This will include: painting of storage facility, raking the BMX track and area, grounds cleanup and painting the Sportsplex (single level building). Closed toe shoes, long pants, painting clothes, hat and sunscreen are all that is needed. A maximum of 50 people can sign up for this.

DAY OF CARING AT THE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
General maintenance tasks and tour of the Nanaimo Child Development Centre. This will include painting, window screen cleaning, power washing and garden cleanup. Outdoor working clothes are all that is needed. A maximum of 30 people can sign up for this.

EDEN GARDENS DEMENTIA CARE VISITING
Social visit with individuals who have dementia. A maximum of 50 people can sign up for this.

KIN PARK BEACH CLEAN-UP
Beach cleanup from the Kin Hut towards the BC Ferry dock to remove any material harmful to ocean life. Bussing will be provided to and from the beach. Please note that the majority of the beach is slightly sloped and is pebbles not sand. Comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet, hat and sunscreen are all that is needed. A maximum of 50 people can sign up for this.

KINSMEN PARTICIPARK CLEAN-UP
General cleanup throughout the trail system within the park. This will include sorting and bagging any garbage and recyling that is found. Comfortable shoes, hat and sunscreen are all that is needed. A maximum of 50 people can sign up for this.

LITTLE HOUSES FOR HABITAT
Building 2 miniature playhouse structures to be placed in the Habitat for Humanity homes in Nanaimo and Duncan. Volunteers will assemble the kit style structures supplied by Habitat. A maximum of 20 people can sign up for this.

LOAVES & FISHES FOOD BANK
Help sort donated food. This will include sorting, bagging, crating and lifting. This is a fifteen minute walk from the Convention Centre. Closed toes shoes are required and we suggest comfortable clothes and you should have the ability to carry bags of food into sorting area. A maximum of 10 people can sign up for this.

NANAIMO 7-10 CLUB SUPPORT
Assisting with the 7-10 Club with serving a hot nutritous breakfast, homemade soup, plus a brown bag lunch to anyone in need. This will include preparing, serving and cleanup of meals as well as taking the time to engage with the client that are in attendance. A maximum of 15 people can sign up for this. This is within walking distance of the Conference Centre but is uphill and transportation can be provided if needed.

BLOOD DONATION - CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES
Blood donations at a Canadian Blood Services temporary clinic. Please note this project will run between 12:00 to 1:00 pm due to the clinic's hours. Lunch will be provided for the donors and transportation will be by taxi to allow donors to be back in time for public speaking competition. If you sign up for this event please be sure you are eligible to give blood. A maximum of 20 people can sign up for this.

WEST COAST BBQ
We have rented the mezzanine across from the host hotel. We are bringing in large tents,tables, chairs and all the necessities.Come out to see the fabulous harbour views and photo opportunities. The dinner will be a delicious catered Chicken and Rib BBQ meal with fresh salads ,local corn and a yummy dessert. The entertainment is an Island group,the Tom Morrisey Band. "East Coast meets West coast Roc. " Space is limited only 250 are able to attend event.
