How was this project promoted in your community? | Ty’s house account has now been closed and the bills have been paid. We contacted the local paper and they wrote a great article on the whole project. The club wrote up nice thank you letters and sent them to all people who were involved with a picture of the home after completion. Our club was humbled by the experience we had doing this and seeing the smiles on Ty’s face every time we showed up to do work on his home. |
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? | |
What was the approximate budget for this project? | $15,000+ |
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project? | The club started fund raising in the form of breakfasts, yard sales, and beating the pavement for donations. The club set up meetings with other service clubs in the area and went over the project with them. It was not long and we had $5000 commitment from the Bath Lions, $2000 from the Florenceville Rotary, and $200 from the Bath K of C. The club had great success in the private sector with a $5000 donation from Robby Brenan from Brenan Farms in Hartland. Robbie is a huge supporter of our club and the work we do. Got huge discounts from the local hardware stores along with donations of pressure treated lumber to build the front steps and all the skirting materials from Best home building supplies in Florenceville. By the end of September we had the money raised and the home was purchased. The home was delivered and set in place the first of October and ready to give it some tender loving care before we let the Ogden’s move in. Brad Dickinson of Anderson Electric in Hartland donated his people to hook up all the electrical along with all the permits and dealing with NB Power. Nick Monroe of Sticks and Stones landscaping in Florenceville donated his mini excavator to run the sewer and water lines. Connors well drilling along with Simonds well drilling from Centreville worked together to hook up the water and helped Vinyl’s plumbing from Centreville hook up the sewer. Jody organized a work party and the front steps were built with a nice 8x10 deck and railing and the skirting was put on the home. We had a lot of volunteers show up and help crack fill and paint the inside along with new mouldings and a complete renovation of the bathroom. We felt that the bathroom was the most important room in the house where the one they had was not functional. Brennan Farms: $5,000.00 Bath Lions: $5,000.00 Florenceville Rotery: $2,000.00 Bath Knights of Columbus: $200.00 Local Churches: $2,800.00 Kin Yard Sale: $400.00 Kin Breakfast: $1,000.00 Private donations: $2,000.00 Kin Club topped up: $150.00 Total: $18,550.00 |

Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? | As you can see it was not just a Kin project it was a community building project. A Community building a home, a nice warm home for Ty, free of mold, and leaks with a working bathroom. This was a community investment in our future where Ty can now concentrate on the important things in his life like school where he excels. Jody and Ty became good friends through the whole process and Ty followed Jody around helping him with whatever task he was doing whether it was renovating the bathroom, building the front steps or putting on the skirting. |
